Hello,

Had my first call with the diabetic nurse this morning. Went very well.
She’s put me on metformin, which I expected. A little nervous about starting it, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
She rattled off a load of information - most of which I knew from my own research. She then discussed the remission pathway with soups and shakes. I told her that I would like to be considered for Mounjaro instead and she was really positive about it! I will have an appointment just before Christmas to discuss and then look to start it just after Christmas. Really pleased about this - it feels like the right thing for me. She told me I didn’t need to justify my choice to her - which was amazing. I thought I would have a fight on my hands over it.

I’m now 7.6 lbs down as of this morning (since 18th Nov). Obviously it’s still fluid and not fat - but I’ll take it considering I’m middle-aged, peri-menopausal and unfit.

Another appointment next week to have various checks including feet - hate having my feet touched!

Nice to hear that its good when things go well

Amazing news @Katetype2 - really pleased you had such a productive appointment and your nurse was supportive of what you think is right for you. <3

Keep us posted on how you get on with the next few appointments and of course when you start using Mounjaro, and in the meantime, well done on your weight-loss so far. Half a stone isn't something to be sniffed at, that's a decent loss!

Well done on your weight loss @Katetype2 you are off to a great start. Glad to hear your nurse is supporting you to manage your diabetes in the way you feel positive about
Don't worry about the foot check. I have very ticklish feet and don't normally like them being touched. Pulse checks done with machine and a small stethoscope like pad. Nerve sensitivity done with a small probe. I just close my eyes and state when I feel it touch various parts of my feet. Not ticklish at all.

I was perfectly happy to use the meal replacement shakes, expecting to see my HbA1c reduce - but it didn't, it went up after two months on the diet.
Over the two months I did lose weight, but I lost faster when I went back to two low carb meals a day and my waist shrank down another size - I was planning new clothes at the time of the blood test.
I have never reacted 'normally' to dieting, so I suppose I should not have been surprised, but it was disappointing at first. It does explain the enraged exasperation of HCPs down the decades who told me I was bad for not doing as I was instructed oh so clearly and defying their authority.
When starting Metformin it might be wise to avoid public places for a while, until you know how you are going to react as some people (like me) get a very violent reaction - others take it no problem, you just can't tell.
