I am just back from my first appointment at the diabetic clinic. I am exhausted from all of it. 😱 I've been bombarded with so many people, forms to fill in, flu jab. Was offered the pneumonia jab too but told them that can wait till my next visit. Flu jab is enough for now.

I've seen the podiatrist who put me at my ease and had us all laughing - there was a couple of doctors came in to watch what he was doing. He told me that I'm alive from the ankles down at least!! :D

A doctor in our practice who I've never met before and turned out to be one of the nicest GP's ever. We discussed lots of things but she said she doesn't want me on any medication for now as I am coping well enough on my own without medication. my HbA1c was 51 which she was happy enough with.

The dietician gave me the Spanish Inquisition and had nothing particularly nice or encouraging to say to me she told me instead of having my 2 slices of Burgen bread with low fat spread that I would be better off having a scone with jam????

Then finally the nurse I spoke with 5 weeks ago to discuss this diagnosis. She is the diabetic nurse as well as a practice nurse. She is such a lovely person, so nice and encouraging about everything. She said she wants to see me regularly just to monitor how I am doing and keep encouraging me to carry on as I am doing. And best news of all, I last saw her 4 weeks ago and have lost 9lbs. :D

Wow Cat, that's brilliant (apart from the dietician). 51 is 6.8 in 'old money' as quoted on this forum. And 9 lbs off!!! Well done. I bet you're delighted with that.

So delighted about the weight loss LeeLee. Being as sick as I was a few weeks ago, I have not been exercising. And I think the diet change and weight loss contributed to them deciding no medication. Only disappointing thing is doctor and nurse said the tiredness will go away in its own time. But hey....9lbs....sooo happy!! :D:D:D

They let these people out and they talk to diabetics.

And then whinge that people aren't doing enough to stop their feet falling off.

Bloody disgusting .....

I just felt so good about the 9lbs loss and obviously knew I had done something right. And there's the dietician telling me a scone and jam would be so much better for me. So shall I go back to eating scones, baked with sugar in them and some jam every day for tea break??? I think not......I'd like to see another 9lbs off in a few weeks, not back on.

Well done Cat1964! 9lbs is pretty good and sounds like you have your diabetes under control. Don't take any notice about the scones and Jam. I don't know where they get some of their dieticians from, some of them are a disaster. Just keep on the road, you are doing brilliantly. 🙂 Give yourself a big pat on the back.

Well done Cat on the weight loss 🙂 and great to hear a positive story about diabetes care (apart from the dietician!) I'm seeing a dietician on Monday and don't hold out much hope as the dietician when I was diagnosed many moons ago was so obese it was a joke and when I was diagnosed I worked out carbs in 'exchanges' (anyone else do that???) and she was so patronising she'd say things like 'this piece of fruit has 1 exchange... so if I eat 2 pieces how many exchanges am I having???' I was 12 not 2! Anyway, I digress... I'd just ignore the scones comment, like happydog says I have no idea where they get some of the dieticians from.

Keep going as you are, I'd give anything to get my hba1c down to what yours is!!

xx

Thank you so much Happydog and Vix. I am very happy at the 9lbs loss. I have had so many positive comments from my family, friends and colleagues at work. I have another appointment with the nurse for bloods in 4 weeks....so here's hoping for at least another 9lb loss :D
