Hiya firefox

Welcome to the forum although sorry you have to be here.

There are some great people on here who will have some pearls of wisdom for you to maybe help you get your heard around this.

Just one bit of info, I am presuming when you say you don't want to become type 1, you mean you don't want to go on to insulin. If you have type 2 diabetes and you have to end up on insulin this does not make you type 1. They are different conditions, they have happened for different reasons. There are lots of people here with type 2 who are on insulin injections and they are fine, they may well find it easier as at least you can match the insulin to what you eat. On tablets you have to follow this quite strict diet which you are struggling with. I would to struggle with it so I do understand that bit.

Good luck to you.🙂

Hi Firefox, welcome to the forum, we're all in the same boat one way or another, so we understand the struggles our fellow diabetics go through.

I know it's hard to get your head round a new 'diet' - I do know it's tough, I've been a yoyo dieter for the greater part of my life, which proves one thing, and that's that I'm useless at sticking to a diet for very long, which is how I find myself several stones overweight. However, having said that, even I have managed to stick to a fairly healthy regime, with only the very occasional small treat, for the last 3 months since diagnosis. And the reason for that is that I'm dead scared of suffering any of the complications that can arise from this condition.

You don't mention how old you are, or whether you have a family, but I'm sure if I was younger I'd probably have more of a 'it won't happen to me' attitude, but as it is, I'm sure that if I'm not fairly strict with myself my diabetes will get worse and will then have a greater impact on my family. My BG levels were very high when i was diagnosed so I've HAD to get down to it and work hard at getting them down as well as losing the weight.

If you dont' have one, I'd recommend getting yourself a Blood Glucose Monitor, so you can test your BG levels regularly, it's a good way of seeing how you're doing, what foods affect you the most/least, and it'll really help you to stick with it, if you can see that what you're doing is keeping your numbers low(er).

It all comes down to fear in the end. Maybe when I'm more of an old hand at all this I'll ease up a bit, but at the moment I'm too scared to do that!!

Sorry, I'm not really any good at the motivational stuff, but just to say be aware of the complications that are lurking by not taking care of yourself, and taking it seriously. It IS horrible having to cut out/down the things you like, but the consequences of not doing that are worse, imho.

There are far more knowledgeable people on here than me, and I'm sure they'll be posting up much more helpful information, and wont' drone on for so long either!

xx
