Please let this work & not give me any night hypos/bad sugar level crashes

I've knocked back my glargine to 40 units instead of 44
Had cereal seeing as cheese on toast didn't work last night
And my bloods are 12.2 (higher than I'd like)

Please diabetes no more of this night time horrors, I'd like some sleep!

Fingers crossed!

I hope it works for you! Have you done a lot of basal testing? x

woken up around 1 & tested - 5.2!

I don't get it

Also don't forget to give it a couple of days for your Lantus to settle at that new level. If it weren't for the bedtime reading, your 5.2 on waking is actually a very respectable figure. Was your bedtime reading AFTER you ate the cereal? What was it before if so? If the bedtime reading was AFTER your cereal then maybe it wasn't such a bad overnight drop.

So much to consider......

8.6 pre cereal & 12.2 after - it was corn flakes

At least I got some sleep

glad you got some sleep. It might help to keep a diary or record of some sort so you can see what works and what doesn't and if you want ask your care team for pointers too.

I've tried my nurses Caroline but they aren't returning my call so have emailed my consultant with what's going on, due to my insulin pump appointment next week, I've been told to address it with that doctor

What time was your novorapid injection before bed? Sounds like it may have still been dropping your levels

I had 15 units at around 6.15.
I was at 4.2 before tea so I didn't have my usual dose.
My glargine was taken around 9.15, it was during the first break in csi

So what was your full day like yesterday - all meals/foods and doses at what times?

What are your carb ratios?

Have you tried splitting your lantus?

I know everyone's needs are different, but I think for your age etc you seem to be on pretty high doses?

Have you done a DAFNE course?

The highest I was yesterday as 10 just before lunch.
1 unit to 10 grams is what I do
I tried splitting my glargine but I was forgetting to take the morning dose so went back to the whole lot at night.
My insulin requirements have stayed the same for 11 years, my glargine used to be 54 units & that got cut to 48 last year then 44

I've asked about a dafne course but work won't let me have the time off

So did you eat 150g carbs at dinner time?

I set my phone alarm every day for 10.30am (I take night time dose at 10.30pm) so incase I have forgotten it in the morning rush (never have done very often) then that reminds me to take it then so it's not more than 12 hours apart!!

I think it's very unlikely your insulin requirements have never changed in 11 years - I may be wrong but in teenage years is more not needed due to all the growth hormones etc going on?

If you were on the right doses you shouldn't be having these huge crashes which are affecting your life so much - your DSN team should be ashamed not helping you with this!

Also - DAFNE.....it's for something which improves your life a lot as a diabetic, I think it's worth explaining to your manager why you need this time off and how it would benefit you and in turn them as your employer too? My DSN gave me a good letter about the course explaining it all for my boss. Do you have a union?

My consultant said what I take is right for what I eat - I was naughty with my tea tho.

I've explained & I don't have a union, working for lawyers is hard work

Well personally I don't think consultants are the best people to decide that - it's largely a self managed condition? You need to be able to dose adjust YOURSELF.

What was your dinner? Personally it doesn't matter how naughty you have been, but what was it as I'm curious about your ratio.....

Wow you work for lawyers - that's ironic!!! I hope they don't practice employment law 😱😎

I adjust myself & normally it's all good. There is the odd time when I've had what I've had below I need extra units in my normal dose

I had Chinese starters, egg fried rice & sweet chili beef with a couple of bottles of peroni.

They do employment law, it's the one thing I hate

Mmm that sounds amazing! :D Yes I guess would be about 150g carbs then....I always need to split boluses for chinese foods though, if I took it all up front I'd have a hypo then a massive high late on or overnight into the morning! Do you split yours?

Have you lost weight or anything recently??

As soon as I started losing some weight my lantus requirments dropped dramatically.. I orignially was put on 34 - 36 units when I started.. Which I think was massively over estimated anyway. However Im now on 12 which seems to be giving me decent control. Obviously the weight loss had an effect on how much I needed, also taking up walking the dog regulary. Im also convinced that these docs start us on crazy doses..

It didnt really help that I never really understood what the lantus was there too do , So never really questioned it.. Thank god for these forums... And basal testing.
