So I have realised two things today, I don't know what the official name is for the finger stabbing device, and I absolutely hate the bayer one that came with my meter. I'm on my second one because the first one I got with the Lego meter they gave me at diagnosis broke, and now second one is developing the same disturbing judder when I load the lancet. So which stabber does everyone use? Also where does a person get a new stabber from? I find the Bayer one very difficult to position on the side of my finger and shoot so I'm always slicing my fingers 😱

The best ones around are the Accuchek Multiclix (or Fastclix). Very smooth, lots of different settings and 6 lancets loaded into a drum, so not at all fiddly to load or reload. 🙂

If you call Roche they might send you a meter and lancet device for free, if not then ask your DSN for one 🙂

Thanks Northerner, my poor fingers need more TLC 🙂

At work I lift a lot of carpets putting cables in. I find gripper rods are ideal 🙄 They are sharp :D & allways get me

My cat often volunteers to open up my veins, sadly usually just after I've sliced myself with the finger slayer :D

This is officially the worst lancet device...:

😱

Thankfully, I never had to use one!

Ruddy Norah, that's an evil contraption 😱

Hello old friend. Yes I 'cut my teeth' on one of them. It was much easier to just stab my finger with the pointy bit and leave the medievil bit in a drawer!

Remember them well.

If I recall the depth settings were either 'deep' or 'comes out the other side'

The Kids of today havnt got a clue 😱:D Spot the old timer 😉

It does look like it was made in a boffins workshop out of something 😱

It reminds me of finger mouse, loved that cute little blighter, which is weird because he was just a finger....

I prefer not to think about how deep that sucker would drill into flesh [shudder]

I too used to use that old one. It was very nasty and vicious. Northerner is right - the MultiClix is great and so easy to use.🙂

Thanks for the tip Northerner and all, they sent me an accucheck mobile with the fastclix stabber, it's a delight, I didn't feel it at all, no cut fingers, and no need for the teeth gritting. Given the impressive blob of blood I might need to dial down the strength a wee bit. I actually quite like the meter as well but the thought of attempting to change prescription for accucheck cartridges is unappealing so I'll probably keep it as a back up 🙂

Happy fingers, bit like happy feet but less cute :D

Driving home from work I heard about some patches that they are working on that could be used for checking blood glucose levels. Apparently they don't hurt. Sounded absolutely brilliant for needle phobic people like me. After more than two years I still hate pricking my fingers,(hangs head in shame). When my current pricker dies I will try the accucheck. Thank you for the information. 🙂

Why wait? Get one now and save yourself extra days/weeks of pain 🙂

I wonder if the 'patches' are what the Freestyle Libre provides? Although you do still need to do some finger-pricking with the Libre, by all accounts.

Do you know, despite my longevity I never had one though I used to meet one twice a year at the hospital clinic !

But the first meter I had - funnily enough a Roche - that cost about £30 - cos the meters weren't on the NHS then but the strips were! - came with a sensible stabber, so I never had to endure that thing at home.

Tophywench how did you manage to escape the Autolet??? Although I found it far preferable to stabbing the lancets straight into my fingers, I hated that so much. Does anyone remember the blood testing strips that came out before blood testing machines were available? They weren't very accurate eg blocks of numbers rather than precise numbers. We were "encouraged" to cut the strips in half to save on the NHS cost.
