I have bought a monitor, on the reviews is said that the finger prick is painless, I find it extremely painful on the lowest setting, does anyone have any tips on how to make it more bearable or am I just a wimp?
Sorry to hear you are finding the lancing device painful @WendyB61
Many members like the 'Accuchek' Multiclix / Fastclix (can't remember which the newer name is!), but it should be possible to get a fairly pain free drop of blood from most finger bodgers with adjustable depth.
I used to find the commonly available 28G lancets quite painful (as supplied by the GP). I now use 33G lubricated lancets (Glucoject -privately purchased from Chemist4U) and there is pretty much zero pain, sometimes non at all.
I also changed from the lancet device supplied with my test meter to a better one privately purchased. The new device seems more gentle which must help, and it seems better made and operates easily with no sideways vibration, and almost silent operation.

It can be painless if you do it right, to the extent you did not know it worked until you see the blood, but can also be very painful if you do it wrong!
There was another very similar thread to yours just the other week which you may want to read, as it includes various pieces of advice:
Hello, Do you have any tips on finger pricking when taking blood for the BG monitor? i am now testing my BG around 6 times a day and find them very sore. I am using the no.2 setting on my pen and swoping fingers/using the side of my fingers. Thanks

My main tip though, which I gave on that thread, is not to press the lancing device too hard against your skin. It causes the lancet to go in deeper, and probably also makes the skin too taut, which makes it a lot more painful. Just let the end of it touch the finger so the needle flicks it instead of trying to burrow itself.
