Relationship to Diabetes
Hi all

I posted earlier in the week as i had a finger prick test reading of 6.5 at a Lloyds pharmacy. As i also have symptoms of thirst and fatigue, i visited my GP who sent me for a thyroid function test and a Hba1c (apologies if that is not the correct name).
The results are back and the thyroid is normal. I am told the Hba1c is 32 but the Doctor has not had chance to comment yet.
What does 32 equate to as i hope it is not on the same scale as the 6.5 result?
Also, as this test is an average of a few months, could it be that the recent few weeks have dragged the mean average up hence the symptoms i am getting?
Also, if the symptoms i am experiencing are not Diabetes related, is anyone aware of any associated conditions linked to Diabetes which might explain things and which i could discuss with the GP?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for reading.

James

All seems normal, a 32 works out at 5.1%...

and the 6.5mmol/l is within target too.....

there is likely other conditions that present similar symptoms....but I couldn't speculate...

HbA1c and fingerstick measurements are very different. HbA1c measures changes in red blood cells that last 120 days, so gives a rough average of blood glucose concentrations over the mast 2-3 months. My limited understanding would be that 32mmol/mol is excellent, but you should wait until you have an appointment to discuss it with your GP.

HBA1c test is over 8-12 weeks to see what your blood sugars are at. A finger prick is inconclusive at those results.

As above discuss with your gp
