hi
ive been testing my blood sugars for two weeks,up and down, getting 7 and 8s ,occasional 9 to 11s,very hard to figure out what food caused a spike, but if test more than 3 hrs after a meal it goes down, still experimenting, anyone got any recipe ideas,if i cut out potatoes, bread and rice im always left hungry

Sometimes if you reduce the portion size of the foods mentioned you might get away with it, so say have a couple of potatoes and bulk the meal out with more veg etc, here's the link to the recipes that are posted on the forum https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/recipes.21/, also what kind of things are you looking for? if you search google you will find loads 🙂 x

Check out recipe ideas on the websites Diet Doctor, Ditch The Carbs, I Breathe I'm Hungry & Low Carb Yum. I use their recipes all the time & i'm rarely hungry.

Are you on any medication for your diabetes? It's not really just the sugar you have to watch out for it's the total carbohydrate, I apologise if you know this already! What did you have for your breakfast? Ok so things you could eat are a lower carb bread maybe such as Burgen or Hovis have a new lower carb bread out available in wholemeal, seeded and white, cheese and cold meats are a good choice, nuts, natural full fat yoghurt, berries, meat, fish, veggies grown above ground etc x

Well all I can say is go low carb. The times my stats were excellent were the times I stuck to my Atkins and the times I went super high, 50 at Christmas 2015, was the times I was eating very high carb so as far as I'm concerned it's Atkins (or your choice of low carb regime) all the way. It's all trial and error and what works for you.

Instead of high carb stuff fill up with tons of veggies, any and all, the more colourful the better I would say. Garlic, onions, tomatoes, cooked and daily for breakfast. Eggs by the bucketload, as much meat fish fowl as you like. Nuts, especially walnuts, berries, especially blueberries but I like strawberries with double cream. There's no need to be hungry, don't suffer like that. 🙂

Not so much carrots, they're a bit sweet, once a week maybe? Lay off the sossies, unless they're 95% meat. I spiked terrible with sausages. Now I just need to follow my own advice to the letter. 😉

im on metformin twice a day and now 1 glizacide, think thats how its spelt ?,i had two weetabix and a coffee, had that last two days, maybe not enough or i need to eat more frequently, just cant understand why so low after eating

Ah as you are now on Glic you will have to watch out for lows as they CAN cause hypos which clearly you experienced today, I would get in touch with your team and ask them about it as I have no experience with it as I'm type 1, just give them a call and explain what happened today and they will advise you on what to do next, what were your levels like before you ate the Weetabix? x

7.6 before

Stick with it.... The only times I feel hungry is when I have higher carb days..... Strategies for dealing with hunger are to have a pint of water, or my go-to is a nice insulated travel mug with black coffee; just sip on that over a few hours....

I have had a combination of Metformin and Gliclazide, which resulted in low bgs if I was late with meals. After a while, I found that the most even result was with low carb meals, with the Gliclazide late at night and a little food, which usually resulted in morning bgs of about 6.5 instead of the 8+ which happened without. It may help you to change the time, or you may find that you do not need it at all. (Breakfast now features eggs and mushrooms. Burgen bread and some carbs later in the day.) Keep testing. You will find what suits you.
