Relationship to Diabetes

BMI April and today after this morning's weigh in. 10lb to go still, but have dropped 4 dress sizes and am one happy bunny. I'm thinking of using today's BMI chart as my screen saver, to make sure I keep on the straight and narrow. The good thing about the diabetes is that I know I have to keep at it, otherwise my Hba1c will go up again. Never thought I'd say I was thankful for T2!

Well done @Vonny

I would never say I was grateful for diabetes but I am incredibly grateful I was diagnosed. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't diagnosed which is why I always mark my diaversary.

WOOHOO Vonny! Way to go! Huge WELL DONE from me too. You are an inspiration!

Diagnosis was my 'stop believing they know better' moment.
Now I am still remaking my clothes to be smaller, almost 4 years from diagnosis.
We had a chilly evening or two so I brought out my winter clothes and half of them are hanging off me. Luckily I keep the patterns and notes on construction so I can rework the knitting and recut the sewing projects.

Excellent!

Very well done @Vonny. a well deserved result.

I agree that, strange as it seems, we sometimes need to say thankyou to T2 Diabetes.
I know very well that if I hadn't had that 'wake up' call of diagnosis ( whoo nearly 10 years ago now!) I would still have carried on the yo-yo dieting I'd been doing for years, and would most certainly not been doing very much exercise.
I've had more energy and Zest for life than I had for several previous decades.
It does all become the 'new normal'.

Good luck with those last few pounds @Vonny, your almost there!!!

Well done @Vonny! 🙂 Diabetes, with the right education, does teach us a lot about our bodies and what they need to stay healthy and on the straight and narrow. I was diagnosed aged 49 and despite the diabetes I'm probably in a much better state than I otherwise would have been (in no small part thanks to the help and encouragement from this forum) 🙂

Keep up the good work! 🙂

Thanks for all your encouraging comments, but today you have the right to chastise me as much as I'm doing myself.

So...as I promised myself, today I went to dad's as usual it being Thursday, stopping at Cooplands to buy dad a sausage bap and me a bacon and mushroom in wholemeal. I always throw the top part of my bap away because I know I can tolerate half a wholemeal but have never tried a whole one since diagnosis. As it was a red letter day, I decided to treat myself and have the WHOLE bread roll. Mistake!!! I'd taken my monitor along with me and was horrified to find myself at 11.7 and feeling horribly stuffed. Later this afternoon I felt hungry for the first time in months, and a bit shaky. I took myself off for a brisk 3 mile walk and feel fine now, but I've learned the moral of this story: a) don't be smug, b) keep on the wagon and c) always throw away the lid of my bacon butty!

The question is Vonny, did you enjoy it at the time? My favourite used to be a bacon, egg, mushroom and onion butty with red sauce. They never did them with wholemeal here and there is no way I could eat that without having a top on the bun.... it would slide everywhere! It was a challenge to eat it with a full bun and not lose something... fried mushrooms and egg are both so slippery!
It's amazing how just that relatively small amount of extra carbs set you away feeling hungry, but I have had the same thing happen to me and then I feel bloated in my lower gut later. I don't miss either of those feelings enough to be tempted when there are other things I can enjoy which don't do it.
It is always a good idea to experiment though so don't let that put you off, just don't repeat that particular experiment!

Do you know Barbara, I didn't enjoy it as much as my topless butty! There was just too much bread. If I ever have an egg on top I just knife and fork it 🙂

Great stuff on your progress @Vonny- and perhaps a useful experiment today, rather than a problem?

Snazzy new avatar image too?

I have a waffle maker and have found that a 'chaffle' of egg and cheese topped with fried mushrooms is rather nice. I plan to do do two a bit thinner and make a bacon 'chutty' in the near future.
