at long last, I have my appointment with my GP tomorrow. I ran out of test strips about 10 days ago so haven't' been testing, but I got some more yesterday. Was 16.6 going to bed, having last ate at 6pm. Woke up this morning at 15.6.
I think I was hoping that all the time I wasn't testing, it would come down and return to normal figures...but instead it has gone the other way!

I don't know if I am looking forward to getting this all sorted, or if im dreading it.
Knowing the way GP's work tho, I will see her tomorrow, and she will just say book in for a blood test, and then the wait begins and it will be another month before I get to see her again!!
I think I am about to start on a very long road.......

Sorry to hear that things have appeared to get worse :( I would imagine that you may be put on some medication, possibly metformin, to try and reduce your levels. Make it clear that you are not happy with these levels and insist that you do not wait another month for things to start happening if such a thing is suggested. Good luck! 🙂

Do you think the GP would start medication even before getting blood results etc?
I think I am worried because I don't know what course this all takes...and I don't know what to expect.

Do you have a choice of medication....I have seen family members (in-laws) go through awful times on metformin...running to the loo every 5 mins. I really am not god when it comes to upset tums etc!

(and sorry for posting in wrong place!!!)

There is a slow-release form of metformin called Glucophage SR which some people can tolerate better if they have problems with the ordinary stuff.

GPs appear to have varying approaches to how to tackle things - some put you straight on medication, others will give a period of diet and lifestyle changes to see if things can be brought under control. Many people who start off on medication find that they are able to stop it later as their levels improve with the adjustments they make, so it's not necessarily forever (although some people need the medicine no matter how hard they try - there is no guarantee).

You might be asked to do a Glucose Tolerance test, or your GP may be able to diagnose you from two random fingerprick tests. Probably won't want to use the evidence of your own tests to confirm the diagnosis. Try not to worry, and remember that we are here for any questions or concerns you may have 🙂
