At last I did a sensible carb count. It came to the grand total of 114. I am working on the premise that during the week i consume between 100-120 carb So far my blood sugars have consistently been 5 5 and 6.6 (although i don't test that often). My first Hba1c after diagnosis (74)was 39.9 at Feb 2019. I am due another in Feb 2020 . I think I am ok with what I am eating. I am not overweight and do loads of exercise (not for the diabetes but for my meniscus tear). It sounds ok to me. Have I missed anything? I have had absolutely no advice or discussion with GP. At my meds review last month the GP was pleasant but clearly hadn't read my notes and didn't really know why I was there.

Sounds like you’ve found a great balance @Sharron1

I generally eat around 120-140 a day too 🙂

Looks good to me

Looks good to me as well whatever you are doing is working.

Getting a carb count of 114 and treating it as somewhere between 100 and 120 seems about right to me. You have got to be really sophisticated to get a count correct to the nearest gram!

Thanks. I suppose the only really way i will finf out will be the result of the next Hba1c. Will park that thought for a few months

To be 100% accurate would be a nightmare for me. I simply don't have the patience.

Hi Mike,

I live here in France now and my doctor wanted to prescribe Metformin for my T2D, which had gradually crept up in the last year of eating baguettes and patisserie. I refused and won a stay of execution until my next review, which was due in March, but Covid-19 has delayed that. In the interim I have lost 55lbs in weight through following a Keto diet and Intermittent Fasting. My question is that now I've reached my goal weight (78kgs), I want to maintain it. I understand what to do for exercise at my age (60), but am struggling to get to grips with upping my carb intake from less than 50g per day to something that allows me to maintain my weight, but not get too carby.

What does a typical eating day look like with a carb intake of 120-140g? Hopefully, I can then tweak it as necessary to make it work for me. Thanks, Jason

I suggest not fasting but eating at 12 hour intervals if you have been eating in a narrow window.
As you have got the carbs right for keeping your BG in the right range, increase the protein and fats to maintain your weight. You might find that you can add in a few gm of carb, an extra salad or occasional dessert, but it might be a difficult balancing act.

Thanks Drummer,

I've had replies on other forums which basically say 'we are all different', 'n = 1', 'suck it and see', 'trial and error' etc. etc. Because of my T2D, hopefully now in remission, I want to stay low-ish carb, maintain weight, include more and more exercise and and.... So perhaps that's why any guidance can only be a guess based on someone else's experience of what worked or didn't work for them. I found the easy part was the weight loss, but I've been at this stage so often, that I hope I'm not destined to give up and regress like so many times before.

Thank you for taking the time out to reply. Stay healthy, Jason

I am officially in remission, and have been for some time now.
Please watch for any signs of BG levels rising. I recommended reducing the length of time between eating as that was a very distinct improver of my levels - for me giving up and losing the improvements has never been an option.
