More than one million people across the U.S. have Type 1 Diabetes, an auto-immune disease that often strikes during childhood.

In March News 10 introduced you to a group of moms who are combating the issue together.

“People don’t really understand what it takes to one, be a type 1 diabetic, and two what it takes to be the parent of one,” said Cassie Hansel, Member of T1DM.

Counting carbs, blood sugar monitoring, insulin injections, and out of region travel for medical appointments are now a way of life for each family.

“She’s very active and running all the time, and always wanting to stay the night with friends so it’s not just our family that lives in our home. Everybody she is around has to learn about it,” said Laurie Taylor, also a member of T1DM.
