If you wish to get rid of those extra kilos or are desperate to control your diabetes and cholesterol, then head straight to your kitchen spice cabinet.
That's where scientists are looking for future anti-obesity and diabetes drugs.
Curcumin - an ingredient derived from turmeric or haldi ? combined with extracts from black pepper and onion skin has been found to be effective against obesity, diabetes and abnormal cholesterol levels.
The combination which goes by acronym CPQ - curcumin, piperine (derived from black pepper) and quercetin (found in onion and skinks of some fruits) - could control diet-induced changes in body weight, blood glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in laboratory animals.
