WEST PALM BEACH ? Eugenia Millender knows the pain diabetes can cause. Her grandmother died from the disease. Her mother is suffering from it.
As a girl, Millender saw how difficult it was for her mother to get the care she needed.
Those experiences led her to become a nurse, so she could provide the kind of compassionate care her mother struggled to find.
"It was degrading and embarrassing," said Millender, the new clinical director of Florida Atlantic University's Diabetes Education and Research Center. "I didn't know you could treat another human being who was in need like that."
