Although my BG levels are normally in much better shape since my fairly recent diagnosis ( now in the 5s and 6s), BP tracking normal for my age...However, on my lower calf just above my ankle, there's a large patch of fiery red dry skin that's hot and a little bit painful to touch - almost as though it's a burn of some sort.

I've been applying moisturiser to little effect.

Any suggestions or clues? A potential consequence of my 70 HbA1c result 8 or so weeks ago? Thanks!

Could it be some kind of insect bite? How big is the patch and have you googled to rule out the bullseye-like patch of Lyme’s Disease?

Thanks - I'll look into that but it doesn't seem to fit. Approximately a 7cm-8cm square patch beneath the calf and above the ankle, left leg only. Some hair follicles seem raised also...

If you can’t think of an obvious cause like a bite, allergy or injury, I’d take a photo of it then speak to your GP. They could look at the photo and decide whether it needs any treatment, or whether they need to see you in person, and hopefully give you an idea of what it might be. I wouldn’t think it was related to the diabetes but that’s just a guess and I’m not a medical professional.

Bit of a long shot, but any chance you were too close to a heater on the train home?

All the feels - I have weird rash on forearms that is driving me slightly mad.

Hope it was just a train heater and nothing too serious. Maybe try icing it to take heat out of it?

@Clifton and @EllsBells Tbh the best thing would be to contact your Gp taking a pic would help Gp

hope you manage to get this sorted Clifton. my partner developed one and it was a nightmare turned out to be cellulitis.
Thank you. Seeing GP tomorrow right before my vaccine appointment. I'll let you know what is said...

I hope it isn’t Cellulitis, I’ve had it a few time and it sometimes it takes a few weeks of antibiotics to clear it up .

I am loving your new picture - we used to see the balloons over the Severn occasionally.

Your username and pictures have been stirring memories for me. We lived from the mid 70s to the mid 80s just outside Chepstow. With 2 children we were frequent visitors to Bristol Zoo. I was sad to see it is moving (has already moved?) outside Bristol, though obviously the Clifton site was very limited for space.

One child was at school at Wraxall, and the other at Clevedon. The uniform shop for both schools was in Clifton, Jolly's, on Whiteladies Road, I think. Googling, it seems to have closed, which is no great surprise, it was really old-fashioned even in the 80s. They had an amazing system where payments and receipts were conveyed in metal tubes from every sales desk to a central cashier. Some sort of vacuum system?

I taught for 3+ years in Bristol, close to Parkway. Later on, travelling from Newport to Paddington, as I did frequently for examiner meetings, I could see the school from the train, just after Parkway, until it was demolished and rebuilt under a new name a short distance away, part of the Stoke Gifford expansion.

Nostalgia is an odd thing - if one moves away and doesn't revisit for years or decades, one expects things to stay as you remember them, even though they obviously must have changed. I bet Weston is still Weston-Super-Mud when the tide is out all day, though! Glad you enjoyed your day out there.

I hope the appointment tomorrow gives you an answer to the leg problem.

Hi there!

Bristol Zoo is still there, open till late 2022. New Zoo 2024 I understand.

On the GWR up to Paddington most weeks - used to get to know my co-travellers on the journey at each stop!

We overlook the Suspension Bridge where we are - it's a nice vista.

Weston super Mud is still the same, with a marathon journey out to the sea's edge most days, even when the tide is in- although I must say the town has seen much better times. Even Marks and Spencer closed.

Was lucky enough to go up in a hot air balloon in 2019 - spectacular is the only word!

I don't know the shop, but one of our neighbours thought it closed as far back as the late 70s...

Ah yes the north of Bristol is now very developed - the old Filton airfield gone and masses of housing and retail galore.

Love the memories! Thanks!

Rash continues - hopefully the answer will come tomorrow...

Cellulitis and diabetes do seem to go together. It can also be very serious if you don't get treatment ASAP. So don't let it go longer than tomorrow Clifton.
