Health issues, in particular the needs of insulin-dependent diabetics, dominated telephone inquiries from the frantic to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s office in the aftermath of the June 29 power-stopping derecho.
Insulin becomes useless after refrigeration is shut off, but diabetics weren’t the only ones with fears rising after the hurricane-like winds churned through most of West Virginia.
Some 680,000 households were thrown in the dark when power grids were compromised.

Well, it doesn't become instantly useless when not refrigerated of course, you still have a month to use it. Interesting point though - I have two boxes of cartridges in my fridge, certainly more than two months supply. I have an insulated picnic bag and some frozen gels in the freezer, so I suppose I could keep the insulin cold for a day or so if my fridge shut down. What would you do?
