how often should your feet be checked, i think i have only been seen about my feet once in 3 years

Carol gets her feet checked at her annual check

My feet are checked every 3 months by the NHS Podiatist and she cuts my toenails at the same time.

John.

You should have an 'official' foot check at least once a year under NICE guidelines 🙂 As Austin says though, you should personally check your feet each day for any potential problems 🙂

How do you get an appt with the NHS podiatrist ? I'm currently seeing one, but paying private. Does it have to be diabetic related to get a referral ??
Thanks

From what I've gathered, it's a bit of a postcode lottery whether you have to pay or not. :( Some people just get to see their practice nurse rather than a fully-trained podiatrist, or they have to pay. Where I am it is free.

Yup - we can't see one unless we present with a foot prob, the GP or consultant agrees you have this prob and it needs to be seen by a specialist. Or of course if Nursie spots it when doing the annual tests for reflexes, circulation, nerve damage etc. Been 15 months since I had mine done.

In six years I have seen a podiatrist once but get the pulses and sensations/feelings checked by the nurse

Pos had one check in almost 48 years of diabetes.

When I was discharged from hospital after diagnosis, I saw my GP for prescription to top up my insulin, and told her the consultant told me to get my feet checked, she made the referal, the podiatist checked my feet, and have sent me an appointment every three month since.

I have a streaming cold and cough, also feeling giddy, my appointment for my foot check was tomorrow at 9.50 am. I phoned to cancel, and she rebooked me right then for 9th January.

Its the only decent service I get on the diabetes checks.
