Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me? For the last few days I have been feeling very thirsty nearly all the time. I know this can be a symptom of high blood sugar levels. But mine aren't that high. They have been a bit higher recently - I think because I have not been very good with my diet and excercise. My waking ones have been in the 8s and 9s and occasionally 10s and then through the day mainly in the 6s and 7s. This is nowhere near as high as when I was diagnosed and I didn't feel thirsty at all then. I am working at getting back on track and am due blood tests for hba1c, cholesterol etc. I was going to delay the tests until I've got a few good weeks/months under my belt. Any ideas why I feel so thirsty? In every other way I feel fine. x

Sorry to hear this Kathy :( Have you recently started and new medication? It's a side-effect of some. It may have something to do with your levels, which have been pretty good for some time now, but if they have recently been heading higher then it could be a reaction to that e.g. your body trying to rid itself of excess glucose and making you dehydrated. Do you feel ill, or just thirsty? I sometimes get pre-warned that an infection is brewing because my levels start getting inexplicably higher a few days in advance.

If it persists I'd see the nurse or doctor, or perhaps call NHS 111. Hope you are feeling better soon! 🙂

Thank you Northerner for the reply. I haven't started any new meds - I did start statins but that was three months ago and I seem to be ok on them. I don't feel ill - just thirsty. Maybe it is the levels heading higher and will improve as I get back on track - I hope so. If not I will contact the drs - thanks again x

Have you got a cold brewing? I always have increased thirst with a cold, long before I was DX.
