Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Was diagnosed 6 months ago with type 2, been taking metformin, still struggling with the side effects, I also suffer with ibs caused by anxiety, so u can imagine what that's liked. Recently attended my first weight management session and all I did was cry and get upset, just want to know there are people out there with the same issues, not that I'd wish this on anyone, cant even enjoy a coffee without the metformin causing issues

Hi @EmWills
Not T2 myself but my son recently diagnosed , he is on metformin and had couple of upset tummy but always eats with food and been ok, sorry you’re fed up... I get IBS and that’s horrid too, I think there’s a slow release version I’ve seen on here that people mention that may be better? Lots of lovely people on here to offer advice rather than me as am a novice, hope things improve for you

If the Metformin is causing you issues, then you could ask if it is necessary - or if you can try to control your blood glucose with diet alone. Eating low carb is a powerful tool to control type two and if you are lucky you can get back to normal levels in weeks - it was 80 days for me, Hba1c of 91 to 47, then top end of normal at 6 months.
I was put on Metformin and Atorvastatin and in a very short time was thinking that life was not worth living - all the more galling to find out I never needed the horrible stuff in the first place.

Hello @EmWills welcome to the forum, how are you today? The forum is here for you so panic no more, I am Type 1 so have a different regime because I have to take insulin with meals. Some T2 people also take Insulin, other T2 members will be along to give you advice and help you adjust to your condition, @Drummer has already posted a very experienced member with excellent advice. I took her advice and made adjustments to my diet e.g. low carb and continue to do so. Please read as much as you can take onboard within the forum but don`t overdo it, ask any question you like it doesn`t have to be about Diabetes. Members have all sorts of problems other than Diabetes but they also have great times/days and share it with the forum, take care stay in touch.

When I was first diagnosed the metformin played havoc with me so I got changed to the slow release Sukato metformin and has been much better since
