Not only have I cut back my levemir dramatically this week because because of problems.....have now woken up today feeling light headed, much more nauseous than usual (despite anti nausea tablets) and have spent the day so far laying on the sofa with no energy, have just woken up after yet another lot of sleep.. Susie has been extra special loving but I am feeling sorry for myself......and the BG is still going down more than I would expect for the amount on insulin:(

Sending you lots of virtual hugs and sympathy Amanda. And good girl Susie. I hope you feel better soon. XXXXX

Hope things improve soon Amanda, Give Susie a pat from me, she's a little star and knows you're not well. You have changed your diet quite abit lately, do you think you need to rethink your ratios if you are not getting the carb portions you were used to? By that I mean perhaps with a larger portion you might need 1 unit per 10g, but a small portion might only need 1 unit per 15g (as an example).

Thanks Faith and Alan. I've got a theory that the BG problems are linked to the gastroparesis ie when I'm eating "normally" the food is staying in my stomach for several hours so I am relying on the basal to deal with the food as well as the bolus. Now that I'm dieting, because my tummy is emptying much sooner because there is less food then it doesn't need as much help from the basal ie I can start using the basal as it should be as a background insulin. Does that make sense? I'm definitely eating much less than usual because I've now lost six pounds since Monday (but I'm keeping to the recommended WW points)

That makes a great deal of sense to me Amanda. The weight loss is probably also helping improve your insulin sensitivity. So many things to consider!

Hope you feel better soon, you are probably doing the right thing by resting... Take care.

Ann
