Feeling so scared

Hi I'm so scared as got to do practical first aid Saturday course
Most of the people delivering those courses are very understanding and used to people being nervous. If it is only 1 day then I expect it will be very basic and much will actually be common sense. You are unlikely to be on your own and don't forget the others will be in the same situation as you.

Thank you i though I would di it a day before my holiday x

Depending on how much they go into it, most of it will be 'get help, call 999/111'. First Aid is about doing everything you yourself can. Different people have different abilities and that's ok. The trainer's goal will be to enable you to provide help to someone in need. I used to have the 'freeze' response when something bad happens and it was only after a multiple of first aid courses (and incidents) that it has now changed to a very reactive response. I think as long as you don't leave a person in need and run away - you're doing something right, be that helping them yourself or finding someone else who's equipped to help <3

Whatever you say or do it can't be worse than my faux pas when I was doing my first aid refresher training when the asked what you should do if someone was choking. I blurted out 'give them a pelvic thrust' instead of abdominal thrust.
OMG everybody dissolved in laughter and then I realised what I had said. I was so embarrassed.
I was never allowed to forget it.

Hi @corriefan I was in St Johns for years and had to be retested every 6 months or so.

Yes, I made mistakes, but that's how we learn, that said I always found the courses great fun and the nurses that ran the courses had a very good sense of humour in a serious way.

Enjoy the course (practical) and have fun

Hope you end up actively enjoying the course on Saturday @corriefan

It’s natural to be a little nervous beforehand, but you have nothing to be scared of. Everyone there will be wanting you to do well, and to help and support you.
