I am on metformin slow release , been diagnosed about 2 months now , just recently I have been feeling sick , can’t face eating a lot of food , I had my tablets changed , I don’t understand what to eat , got no information, I’m type 2 and confused

I was so ill taking normal Metformin and Atorvastatin that I gave up, first on life itself, but then the tablets and discovered that I did not need them as I was no longer diabetic at 80 days from going low carb.
For decades I was telling my GP and other HCPs that eating carbs made me feel ill, and even though I had been flagged as having high glucose long before diagnosis as type 2, I was not told.
Avoiding all those 'healthy' carbs has kept me in normal numbers for some years now, and I only have to think about how unwell I felt taking tablets for my will power to kick in.
There is a lot of information about eating low carb, and also testing blood glucose levels to see how meals or new foods affect you - we are all individual in how foods affect us, but it is the high carbs from grains, potatoes and sugary fruits which are the usual suspects.

Welcome to the forum @milburn60

Sorry to hear you have been experiencing some nausea with the metformin. It is not an uncommon side affect and can affect a little over 1% of people taking metformin. Hopefully the side effects won‘t last too long for you (they can disappear after a few weeks in many people), but if you find them troublesome , or if they persist or seem to be getting worse, do go back to your Dr and explain how you are being affected.

Some folks seem to find it helps to take Metformin with a reasonable-sized meal, but not too high in carbs.

There are lots of different approaches that people use to aim for a diabetes-friendly meal plan. Some aim to lose weight by keeping calories down, others aim to moderate total carb intake to help regulate glucose levels.

There are a few options and ideas here:

Good luck finding an approach that suits you - let us know how you get on 🙂
