Waaah. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been feeling nauseous 5 out of 7 days a week at least. It can start in am n last for few hours or late afternoon n still be there when I go to bed. I’ve been on metformin now for 3 months and felt fine until about 3 ish weeks ago. Is it a bug? Is it the drugs? Is it the diabetes in general?Have appt with doc but not for another 10 days n sick of feeling sick. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Make shure you keep hydrated. We are not Drs but I would say bg is too high. Keep carbs down & good luck at Drs

Thanks for reply, hardly eaten any carbs today, sugars were 6.0 an hour ago. Drink plenty of Coke Zero, water, tea and diet lemonade too.

Keep a diary of your bg & show Dr. Any info will help them. When I was once taken into hosp the nurse gave me an ice cube because every sip of water I was sick. I liked that nurse a lot. Good luck 🙂

You haven’t mentioned your bg’s except for the 6 which is fine. Are you due another Hba1c soon because it will hopefully have reduced significantly since diagnosis.

Metformin is notorious for causing these symptoms so you may need to discuss the slow release version with your GP. Best wishes.

Yep, due on weds.
Fluctuate between 7 and 8/9 most of the time. Used to be 6 when first went on tabs and started testing. Creeping slowly higher all the time. Will defo be looking to adjust meds I think. Thanks

Thanks, already keeping logs n now full food diary too. 🙂

Had to ring docs today as haven’t been able to eat as the sickness was massively worse with headaches n stomach pains. He’s changed me to glucophage which I’ll start tomorrow. Anyone had experience of this one?

That is another brand of Metformin.
Hi, yup I know, just wondering if people had experience of it after starting on standard metformin really?
Thanks

Hi Beck, I was started on Metformin which I couldn't deal with and then changed to Glucophage- the SR version of Metformin- it has taken over five weeks for the symptoms to lessen but touch wood I'm not experiencing half as much 'discomfort' as I was, however it doesn't seem to be doing much for my BG levels. I'm due for an overhaul appointment next month so am carefully monitoring everything in the meantime.

I sometimes feel a bit sickly but I have an iron deficiency at the moment so may not help. I don't know if you have been checked for that. There are all sorts of things which can lead to nausea.

Thanks both, I’ve been anaemia for a few years but they don’t know why and I don’t take iron so they can’t be too worried I guess. Had my bloods done weds, now waiting on Thursday phone appt. so far I have only felt sick one evening since I started tabs 9 days ago. But I guess it is early days.
