Hi hope you don't mind me posting because your all so friendly I feel so scared because I've got my dentist appointment this week and scared I will get told off I'm due x-ray results too but not had time to speak to them as been so busy.
What are you scared of, they are there to treat you and give advice about dental care and hygiene not to criticise.Hi hope you don't mind me posting because your all so friendly I feel so scared because I've got my dentist appointment this week and scared I will get told off I'm due x-ray results too but not had time to speak to them as been so busy.
Morning a lot of people are anxious about dentists even me, but I'm sure you will be fine good luckHi hope you don't mind me posting because your all so friendly I feel so scared because I've got my dentist appointment this week and scared I will get told off I'm due x-ray results too but not had time to speak to them as been so busy.
I can sympathise with you over losing trust with your long standing dentist. I went through the same with my previous one who is now retired, but over a couple of years he seemed to get increasing grumpy.Must confess I am avoiding making an appointment to see my dentist. I have the remnants of a tooth that was crowned many years ago, got infected last summer and needed anti bs and I was supposed to go back and get it out because the root is compromised but I really can't face an extraction and I have lost a bit of confidence in my dentist the last few years, even though I have been with her for over 20 years. In the meantime, the very back tooth on the other side has broken and is tender when I chew on it, suggesting that too is going to need to come out. One extraction was bad enough to contemplate but one on each side is worse still. Added to that, I think I would like implants as I am getting low on chewing surfaces with both back teeth broken down, but I need to save up if I want those, so I am avoiding going for a check up because I will feel pushed into making a decision that I am not ready to make. I am OK with fillings and crowns etc, it is extractions that I am queasy about..... so I am procrastinating and ignoring the email requesting me to ring up and make an appointment for a check up..... which is even more stupid because I am a private patient, so I am paying monthly and not getting the service and all because I am a wimp! It isn't pain I am worried about, it is the unpleasantness and thought of having a tooth pulled.
Anyway, just wanted to say that I totally sympathise and you are not the only one who is scared!
Thank you for your lovely message I scarily had a hypo last night was 2.9 xI hate going to the dentist, and not because of the dental work. I don't mind pain for a reason, or all the messing about.
But because of how they make me feel about how I look after my teeth (in their opinion), and it gets to me. I know it shouldn't. I watch what I eat as much as I can with regards to sugar intake, fruity juice etc. I brush my teeth at least twice a day every day, I rarely have extra sweet stuff unless I need it and always with a meal if I do.
I brush right, I follow all the advice and every single time no matter who I see I leave feeling like it is all my fault and that I haven't done enough.
They do not consider type 1 at all. I wouldn't have sweets if it wasn't for diabetes as I don't like them, never have. There have been many occasions where I have had a hypo treatment to close to brushing teeth, in the middle of the night and just left my mouth be until the morning, it is bad enough having to treat a hypo in the middle of the night without staying up longer.
@corriefan you are stronger than you thin, diabetics are, you get get through it. Remember only you know what it is like in your boots, and fact based opinion is one thing, but they don't have all the facts because they don't know your full life, diet, lifestyle. You are only accountable to you for your health including teeth.
They see the xray your mouth and think that means they know all about you, they don't. Chin up. You got this.
I will book mine. I need to, I have a broken tooth. But the hygiene made me feel like dirt and I couldn't explain because she was cleaning my mouth. I change dentist (I get cover through work) nearly every time I go as I hate it, I cried last time. And I do try and try for a fresh start, to not let it upset me but it does.
Thank you for you lovely reply I goithis dentist last year right before my diabetes diagnosis xI don't have a dentist in Lincolnshire yet
No NHS available and I can't afford to go private until my state pension kicks in later this year. I have a broken tooth where the filling has failed for the third time in 18 months. It really needs a crown. Not keen on dentists but put up with discomfort. They always thought I was weird asking for work without the injection first as I found the jab much more painful.
Never had an extraction but may need to have my one and only wisdom tooth removed if it gets infected again. Badly impacted so it will be a hospital job if it happens.😱

Thank you so much your all so supportive xxI think you should find most dentists really caring and understanding that people will be anxious and scared. What are you scared about specifically? It may help explaining your fears to them as I’m sure they will be as helpful as possible in allaying your fears and making you feel more comfortable.
I have always had great dentists, my current one even rallied to help when I had a hypo in the waiting room. All I said was I needed to get some dextrose tablets from my coat (which they kept in boxes during Covid times rather than having people keep them on or hang them next to each other). The receptionist asked to help me, offering drinks and when I went into the dentist she already had some dextrose tablets out and a BG meter to help me. Very impressed with how caring and helpful they all were.
Good luck and I hope all goes well for you.
Aww thank you so much xxI used to sit in the car park waiting for my appointment as I was so scared. I think the dentists are far more aware of how nervous many people are and seem a lot more reassuring nowsdaya.
I hope that it goes smoothly. Let us know how you get on.
Thank you xxMorning a lot of people are anxious about dentists even me, but I'm sure you will be fine good luck
