No, it's not morning sickness! I find that I always feel rather queasy about an hour after breakfast, which is annoying as I like to go for a run in the mornings and I have to wait until I'm feeling OK.

Anyone else get this? It doesn't happen after other meals. It may be something to do with medication. I take omeprazole which is supposed to settle your stomach, also aspirin and clopidogrel in the morning.:(

Yippee..... at least I'm not alone in this!!!.... every single morning I'm sick/ queasy!!.... and no it is defo not morning sickness lol.... I used to think it was when i was running highs but this morning disproved that theory as i was under 2 and still vomiting 😱 not the best thing when hypo and trying to drink lucozade lol 😱

p.s. i'm not on any meds apart from insulin.

i do get it very occaisionally, once that has passed I am very friendly with the loo. I monitor what sugar levels are doing and make sure I drink enough. The doctor seems to think it is nothing to worry about and I don't get it often enough to be a bloody nuisance with it.

Hiya,
I not sure if this can help you all on the feeling queasy in the mornings. But Nathan was given a massive book on his diagnosis called 'How to become an expert on your own diabetes Type 1 in children, adolescents and adults' its been what i would call a valuable piece of equipment, and helped me in various aspects..any way I decided to just refer to it to see if it would offer any reasons for you.
One possibility people can sometimes feel sick after hypo, especially if the blood glucose has been low for sometime. The nausea is caused by the hormone glucagon, which is secreted from the pancreas during hypo. Since the glucagon secretion from a person's body usually decreases after several years with diabetes, this reaction is more common in people who have had diabetes for a few years only.
Could it be possible you are or have had a hypo during the night, and maybe the release has brought your levels up, but still leave you with the nausea.
Sorry cant be of more help

I also used to feel sick EVERY morning. But now my control has improved a bit and the range which my BG readings sit between is much smaller, its definately decreased!
Still get the odd morning feeling sick - sometimes waking up high but def nto always, but i put it down to constantly swingling between a bit high and a bit low, rather than one big hyper or hypo.

can't speak for the gentlemen, but mine happens about every 4-6 weeks. Then my sugar level are all over the place even if I don't have a period (I'm at that age where they don't always happen).

Thanks guys. I don't think it is anything to do with my levels as they've been very good for quite some time. I did get night hypos a while back, but they leave me feeling headachy and tired rather than queasy.

I'm blaming the medication - probably the aspirin. I'm on a very low dose of omeprazole so I might ask the doc if I should increase the dose - have an appointment tomorrow. When I was first diagnosed I felt really sick all the time - put me totally off my food and I continued to lose weight after leaving hospital. We worked out that that was due to medication - ramipril and beta-blockers, plus possibly the aspirin. Only the aspirin is left in the equation now, although it's possible that the clopidogrel is playing a part too, but I'm due to come off that in a couple of weeks.

Still felt queasy today 2.5 hours after eating (and I'd only had a slice of toast). But, managed my run and survived it with stomach contents intact!🙂

Northerner, I'd wonder about the aspirin too but don't know whether your other drugs might contribute. Might be worth a word with the pharmacist as well as your GP as pharmacists are sometimes more aware of the detailed interactions of drugs than the medics. Good luck with the doctor tomorrow

addict have you been to the doctors about that?? You really should go,because as you said, it's not good if you have a hypo!

I went from no drugs to a dozen or so overnight, and I really don't think my body appreciated it! I'm pretty sure it was their combined effect that made me so ill for so long, and I worked really hard to reduce them because my quality of life was so poor. It sounds like a minor thing, and probably is compared to what some have to suffer, but feeling constantly sick is very wearing and depressing. I think we sometimes forget what fundamental changes to your system these drugs incur in order to achieve their objective. I also take a statin in the evening, and a blood pressure tablet, but the lowest dose. Hope fully the doc will shed some light on it - in my former life I would never have bothered with something like this!

i defo do feel a little sicky in the mornings, but i just muddle on through it. it seems to be a thing for us diabetics!!!! (like we dont have enough as it is!!! lol)

Hi Northerner, when you have to watch what you eat because you are diabetic you don't want to be suffering nausea too. From your other thread, it may well be worth getting those liver function tests re-done too as your body could still be re-adjusting. It is certainly worth bothering about - believe that a good quality of life just helps us all to cope with this b@g@e@a@ion factor that is diabetes

Hi Northener, are you checking your BG when feeling like this? it could be that your having a hypo or hyper depending on which got going first- your insulin or breakfast.

Deffo test when not feeling right though.

Hi Anthony, my levels are OK, so it's not that - they are rising after my breakfast, but when I test a couple of hours after breakfast they are still reasonable, so no big spikes. Just discussed things with my GP and she thinks it may be a) the combination of clopidogrel and aspirin or b) the aspirin on its own. I'm due to stop the clopidogrel in a a week so she suggested I try the dispersible aspirin on its own for a week, and if the nausea persists then she has prescribed some enteric coated aspirin. If none of that works I might stop the aspirin completely for a week and see if that helps - I'm sure my arteries will survive a week without it! Problem is, if it turns out that I can't tolerate the aspirin I won't want to start taking it again!
