I was diagnosed with T2D on 16th Oct, during an annual blood check, with an HbA1c of 119, which freaked me out a bit. Thanks to the support of people on these forums, I took some suggestions on board, limited my carbs (aimed for less than 120g/day), limited my calories to less than 1200/day, cut out eating rubbish, limited takeaways & meals out and cut back on alcohol. I also tried to get some exercise in several times a week as I work from home in front of a computer screen all day. I was put onto Metformin and am now at 2 x twice/day.
On 6th Nov, my HbA1c was down to 101. I was also losing weight - which I needed to - but I was more focused on getting my HbA1c down. My DN wanted to start me on gliclazide, but I asked to wait until my 3 month review, which is this week and reconsider depending on my bloods.
I had another blood test & weigh in etc on Friday and as well as having lost just over 4 stone, my HbA1c is now 49! GP is happy to wait 6 months before a further test.
I'm surprised - I was hoping for mid 70s-mid 80s, so I will totally take 49.
If I'm honest, it hasn't been as hard/limiting as I thought it would be. I'm going to keep going as I could probably do with losing the same again in weight.
Thanks to everyone who has supported me on here. It also shows anyone with a new diagnosis & a really high HbA1c, that it is possible to get it significantly down reasonably quickly with just diet & lifestyle changes & Metformin.

Really well done @MrsMonty!!!
You've every right to be pleased with yourself!

I've got another few weeks until my next bloods but I'm hoping with a touch more self control (been a weird week this week) that I can have an equally impressive drop on my HbA1c result 🙂

Wow!! Fab results! Many congratulations and thanks for posting because it is results like this which show people that it really is possible to make a massive difference and gives them hope and inspiration. Well done!

Congratulations @MrsMonty on a fantastic HbA1c result and a significant weight loss. Nice to know that you felt supported by the kind folks on this forum, but give yourself a pat on the back for sticking to the lifestyle changes. It's not easy and you have come a long way in a short time.
Wishing you continued success on your journey managing your diabetes :hello::party:

Incredible result @MrsMonty well done you and other will take heart and be inspired by your results :star: :star: :star:

@MrsMonty that is a fantastic result, congratulations.

That's a great result - well done. Keep doing what you're doing and your next HbA1c might be even lower.

Well done you! Way to go! That’s a brilliant result.

I would never have believed it possible but managed to get myself down from pre diabetic hba1c of 46, to 38 in 3 months. Exactly the same programme minus the meds, lower carbs, exercise and little alcohol. Lost weight and so many other issues too!
So keep up the good work! You’ve already proved you can do it! Well done!

Wow, that is fantastic news and a great result. It just goes to show others what CAN be done. Its not easy, but it can be done.
Keep us updated with your progress, cheers.... 🙂
