Feeling low blood glucose in the morning

Hi,

Before my holidays and after I wake up early feeling I have low blood glucase and feel unwell.

Following breaksfast and later I am totally fine. This morning I had the usual unwell feeling with BG at 7.1. I also get this at 5.5 to 8.

My previous meal would be at 6pm the night before and I keep my carbs below 60g a day mostly.

On holiday I walked 80 miles but drank lots of beer (it was hot) and ate lots of food and have never felt better. I was careful (ish) with no desserts but I had chips most days. I think I need to walk more and eat more for this to work. I am type 2 no medication.

Does anyone else have this problem of feeling yucky before food even though your BG is relatively high?

Maye you could increase your carbs a bit as what you are having is quite low, maybe add a snack and a drink before you do to bed as you are eating quite early (well to me it seems early) or have a drink before you get up and see if it makes a difference to how you feel and your blood glucose.

I am not sure why you mention low blood glucose when clearly that is not the problem because your BG is not low. Maybe you are just hungry or tummy upset because you have gone so long without food. I am sure there are lots of things that could make you feel rough in the morning other than your diabetes.
I would also recommend eating something before bed to see if that helps. Maybe something like a boiled egg with mayonnaise or a chunk of nice cheese perhaps with some olives if you like them or some nuts or a cooked sausage or some hummus or other dip and crudites.

Personally I can't get away with eating early in the evening.
Were you eating later when you were on holiday?

Sorry to hear you are feeling grim in the mornings @lordburnside

Which feelings or sensations are you having that you associate with low blood glucose?

Diabetes UK lists these as being relatively common:

  • feeling confused;
  • sweating
  • being anxious or irritable
  • going pale
  • palpitations and a fast pulse
  • lips feeling tingly
  • blurred vision
