Relationship to Diabetes

Hi decided it would be a good idea to talk to people who are maybe going through similar things to me? Until recently I managed my diabetes pretty well (diagnosed 2011) but the last year has been very stressful and worrying so now I find I have higher blood sugar levels to cope with too. I am being put on something called Dapagliflozin together with my Metformin, is there anyone out there who has taken this if so how did you get on?
I am not used to this so apologies if I have put more on here than I should have done to introduce myself

Hi and welcome to the forum 🙂

Sorry I cant offer advice on the medication you are going to be starting as I'm Type 1, if you use the search bar at the top and type in the name of the medication you may find some more information while you wait for a response to your thread 🙂
xx

thank you for that, I am hoping to get more replies and also get my head round using this Forum!

Hello. I don’t have any advice, just a bit of fellow feeling that feeling low and fed up is unfortunately pretty normal. Too much sugar on top of life in general isn’t as sweet as people who don’t have to manage diabetes may think. I hope you’re having a better day.

Hi Annette and welcome. I’m afraid I also have no knowledge of the medication, someone will so be patient as they will reply to you. As for the being fed up and low I think everyone experiences this from time to time, some a lot more than others. We all vent our feelings on the forum when it is particularly getting to us as we do understand, I too have gone through periods of feeling low but I got passed it, like life in general sometimes it’s fine other times it’s complete rubbish.
Hope you get some answers soon and your bg levels improve. If you have any particular questions feel free to ask as we are all here to help each other. Sue x

Hello @annettemcd

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you’ve been having a difficult time. Periods of stress can wreak havoc with your blood glucose levels, so the stressy time you’ve been having could easily be contributing to the problems you are seeing with your BG levels.

I think we may have a few members on ‘flozin’ type meds - sometimes called Forxiga. Hopefully someone will be along to share their own experiences, though some who have posted about them in the last don’t really frequent the forum much any more.

You could here looking here:

Hi and welcome to the forum. I cant comment on the meds but wanted to say hello and that you are not alone with this :D

Hi, like the others so far I have no experience of your medication.
In fact I have no experience of any diabetes medication since I brought my HbA1C down from 53 to 45 through LCHF alone. Though I needed some reassurance about the Higher Fat part of that.

I would just like to say that there are lots of things which raise Blood Glucose though the main one is dietary carbohydrates at above your personal tolerance of them. Here is a list of some of those other factors (and personally I believe in treating causes rather than symptoms - in the case of T2D higher BG is a symptom):
stress,
illness.
injury,
medication - particularly Statins and Steroids,
Lack of sleep,
lack of exercise but in the vert short term, intensive exercise can also boot BG - so moderate exercise is better.
