Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I'm feeling a bit lost and confused. I was taken into hospital 2weeks before the pandemic with respiratory distress and kept in so that they could get my oxygen up but when the pandemic kicked in it was you're safer at home than here. The problem is no one told me i was diabetic and it wasn't until i asked for results of a test i asked for just before i went i hospital.that they finally told me. The reason I'm so confused is my partner assures me that i was on metformin (i think it's called) while in the hospital but when i was discharged due to pandemic there was nothing on my meds. I wasn't informed i was to see a dietician, to be on meds or anything just discharged. I've been monitored my bloods myself at home as soon as i wake up and the lowest its been is 8.5mml and the highest is today at 14.5. I really feel alone in this. I'm a lone parent and need to be there for my 3 kids as the all have ASN.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Take care and stay safe

Maybe contact your GP and try to get more information about your treatment in hospital, but in the mean time lowering your intake of carbs should lower your blood glucose levels.
Avoiding bread, rice, pasta, potatoes and other starchy foods, cutting out sugary fruits and other foods should make all the difference to the numbers you see.

Are you only testing when you wake up? If that’s the case I’d suggest testing more often during the day. Try testing just before you eat anything and then again 1 - 2hrs after that. Those results will show you how you’re responding to various foodstuffs and will give you an average reading over time.

Welcome to the forum @Vgsuperstores

It sounds like you have fallen in a crack with this pandemic effecting the care available. However I would echo the suggestion that you contact your GP and ask for a check regarding diabetes. Explain what happened in hospital. This will quickly confirm the diagnosis and then prompt follow up checks and any necessary medication.

In the mean time it would be good for you to become familiar with the amount f carbohydrates in foods that you eat. It is this than is converted into glucose once inside you. If you have diabetes your body is not able to produce enough or use the insulin you do have to extract the glucose from your blood. If you reduce the amount of carbs you eat you will need less insulin. As a good starting point reducing the more obvious sources such as potatoes, pasta, rice, cereals, cakes and biscuits will all help.

Keep in touch and let us know hoe you get on.

Hear! Hear!
I joined the day I was diagnosed and I’ve found this place invaluable. It’s been emotional support and it’s also been a way of holding myself to account regarding diet. Sometimes it’s also brought a smile to my face and made me chuckle.

Oh and it’s also introduced me to Golf Clash (thanks @Lanny)!

Sorry to hear that you have had such a confusing time.

Please do try to book a phone appointment with your GP to follow-up your diagnosis and make sure you are getting your annual 15 healthcare essentials, treat/medication reviews etc and screening checks (eg eye screening)
