Hi folks,
For the last two days I have been feeling really weird in the evenings. I'm having trouble walking as it seems as though the floor is moving and I'm about to fall over. It's a bit like trying to walk on board a ship. By morning I feel much better but then it starts again late afternoon and gets steadily worse. Is this the diabetes or a side effect from metformin? I'm taking 2 a day. My BG levels are ranging from 5.3 to 16.2. They are mostly above 8.

Hi Ali,

Sorry to hear you're not reacting too well to the Metformin, has your doctor mentioned going towards anything stronger at all?

I must admit that I haven't had quite those side effects to the Metformin, but my levels are a little lower. Have you found a trend from testing while you are at the top end of your BG range that might be contributing towards these feelings.

Wish I was an expert, but hopefully someone with better advice will be along shortly...

We're not able to diagnose problems on this forum, just to offer support as other people affected by diabetes. However, your sea sickness type and unsteadiness symptoms suggest something related to balance organs in inner ear. You should check with your GP, although being a bank holiday weekend, phoning out of hours GP service or NHS phone service, depending in where you live, is probably more appropriate. Or ask a pharmacist - they're the experts on medicines, uses, side effects etc.

I had a funny spell a couple of months back. I was dizzy & quite disoriented. Lasted about an hour. I'm not on medication so not sure what is was. Tested bloods & they were normal.

Are you feeling perfectly well at other times of the day, if not tbh though I'm no medic I would suspect an infection or virus.
I would contact your out of hours service rather than waiting till Tuesday.
I've just had a Google and on a site I'm not familiar with their was mention of Metforming causing Dizzyness.
