I feel very ill and have been so for two months now. Constant nausea, making sight of food impossible. Lightheaded, unstable: almost a feeling of being drunk. Icy-cold peripherals: feet and below knees. Sharp pain in left eye.Sharp chest pain, especially upon touch: very local.Weakness, even after sleep. All tests negative.
The nausea is the worst problem, since I can do nothing all day/every day. I am on Metformin 2 x daily. Please advise.

Have you been checked out by the doctor, 111 or a&e?

SORRY--SHOULD HAVE EMPHASISED. Checks for most possible explanations have been carried out by doc and hospital. I am now wondering whether it's a diabetic issue, as I am Type 2. Metformin changed to cheaper substitute recently...don't know why.

Have they checked liver function? Thyroid?

Those symptoms sound horribly Did your symptoms start soon after going onto Metformin or the cheaper version or at another time.

To be honest I think you need to be checked out at the hopspital. I suggest you get someone to take you to A and E today. I know this is not something you want to hear but imo it’s best to be safe than sorry.

Please let us know how you get on .

Definitely push for more medical input. I’d also get put back on your more expensive Metformin.

Could it be an ear issue? There’s a horrible condition of the inner ear that causes dizziness and nausea. My daughter had it and basically had to lie down until it passed in a few weeks.

Thank you so very much,INKA et al.. How kind people are to concern themselves with the problems of folk they don't even know! I shall talk with GP
about inner ear, thyroid, and restoring/re-assessing my Metformin. Thank you.

I felt pretty dire on Metformin - it was such a relief when, a few days after stopping taking it along with Atorvastatin some of the side effects began to fade - and it was Christmas too. I think I managed about 5 weeks one a day most days two on possible two days in that time.
I told the doctors surgery what the problems were, but they just don't take it seriously to be honest. I was suicidal.

As this is something that has been ongoing for sometime no wonder you feel so unwell. Some of the symptoms you describe are typical of Meniere's syndrome which is an ear related problem but it is something which comes and goes. How are your blood glucose levels as some of your symptoms are consistent with problems there. If you are unable to eat then the metformin could be giving you the nausea.
There do seem to be a lot of things going on so I urge you to be insistent for further investigation.

Wow. Did you share my symptoms, Drummer? How grim you must have felt. I am hopeful that I can convince my doc to at least try a change of meds, so that I too can recover. Suicidal describes it well.

Doesn't 'come and go'--- a bit of 'go' would be a relief! Thank you for your help. very encouraging, leading lights.

My mom had underactive thyroid and felt sick tired cold etc. And my sister also has and sometimes feels sick and often cold. May worth an ask. Diabetes and thyroid often seem to go together it seems.

Chris, you don’t say how long you have been on Metformin, but it can cause B12 deficiency, in turn that can cause many many peculiar symptoms. Almost different for everyone. There is a checklist here http://www.b12d.org/admin/healthcheck/diagnosticcalculator I am not suggesting it is that, but it’s worth discussing with your Dr.

I have been feeling the same lately but my parents just dissmised it

Hi Chris,

So sorry to hear about all of the health challenges you've had. To be honest, no one can diagnose on the site as it could be a number of causes.

It's best to get your GP to look into things so that you can get the appropriate treatment.

If you are concerned at any point, don't be afraid of giving 111 a call, just for some advice and a second opinion.

Thanks,Bexlee. I recognise these symptoms and will consult my GP with this info to hand. Very helpful

Awful when parents aren't supportive. If you are unwell, you probably look so to your friends etc. Hope we get help from this forum, which has already been of great to me. Bless you. See your GP again, and take a list of your ailments.

Sorry you’re not feeling right @Angel11 Do you think it’s your blood sugar or something else?
My blood sugar has been high lately maybe it's because of that but it could also be something else because I've heard that it could also be thyroid
