Hi

Diagnosed 3 week ago with T1 and on insulin now. I have been feeling more energetic at night which is a good sign as before diagnosis I was always exhausted.

I have however, been feeling slightly off balance and a bit sickly and not sure if this is normal. I am aware that I may experience "false hypos" early on, but the feeling of being off balance isn't very pleasant. I have an appt with DSN later today so will say to her. My blood sugar levels are ok and I don't have any colds/viruses that I'm aware of at the moment. Anyone else have any experience of this in early diagnosis?

Can’t help sorry but welcome to forum

To be fair, it took me a long time to feel anywhere near 'right' after my DKA, give it time is my advice and talk to your dsn.

Thanks ladies. DSN was happy with my current readings and has advised it's probably my body trying to readjust to normal levels. I just don't really know how long it should take to start feeling relatively normal again. As i say I have noticed a difference in my tiredness, so that's progress.

I've never heard of anyone being giddy - which doesn't mean it never happens of course. What's your BP doing when you feel dizzy? Stuff that happens after we ARE diabetic - doesn't always have anything to do with diabetes, only sometimes so if it doesn't improve by the end of the week - go and see your GP so he can establish (or try to) that it can't be anything else.

4 weeks may be a relatively short time after first diagnosis (bearing in mind we have it until the day we pop our clogs) but it's a long time to feel dizzy for no reason.

As TW says if you feel off colour it can be nothing to do with your Diabetes.
See how you feel and see GP if nothing improves.

Glad the DSN was pleased with your progress, but not surprised as you are clearly doing well and it is good to hear that you have more energy. That is certainly my lasting memory: The extreme tiredness before I went into DKA with no idea why at that time. Insulin is wonderful stuff!!!

Thank you. I'll def go see my doc if it persists. I had problems with labyrinthitis many years ago but will be worth getting checked over.

Thanks SB, I couldn't see past 9pm before diagnosis and was completely lethargic looking back now. Think my body is enjoying having some insulin in there again.

So it turns out I have a urine infection. Given a 3 day course of anti biotic. Doc said I might be more prone to them now. The good news just keeps on coming...🙂
