Government documents reveal it took Gaston Memorial Hospital staff some six hours to realize a nurse gave an emergency-room patient insulin instead of potassium.
The investigation also says the 49-year-old woman received the insulin at more than 10 timesf the rate prescribed even for a diabetic patient who actually needed the treatment. She ended up in ICU.
One of the nurses at fault had ?past medication error issues,? said a report released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
