Baked beans shot my bg through the roof! YMMV :D

Baked beans and that dietician have a lot in common....both produce a lot of irritating hot air! :D

Just venting , I found out I had type2 back at the end of February with BG Lev's in the high teens. Obviously this came as a shock and i tried on the advice of Dr to change my lifestyle. For the last five weeks I have done just this and brought my levels down to between 5.4 and 7.5 i have also dropped around 14kg and walk for an hour everyday. I have cut out sugar and potato, rice, takeaways ect and had already quit the drink six months ago. i am really enjoying the fish and other alternatives to junk food and was feeling really good and was happy to continue, new healthy me ect. This morning I went to the drs and as told even if I carry on I will still probably suffer with issues later on and need medication also still need to lose around 20kg for proper weight, this has put a bit of a dent in my enthusiasm to be honest and although I still have gone for the salad lunch it all seems a bit flat.Hoping my walk tonight will cheer me up as usual. I used to love my food and eat as much as I could of everything am trying hard not to really go for it today haha
MrJames...don't be too despondent with the negative review from your GP...disappointing...but not uncommon...had a similar experience myself...as have many here...your weight has reduced...your blood sugars lowered...within the NICE guidelines...determined to maintain & improve them further...difficult to muster enthusiasm in the face of such negativity...likely your GP is following protocol...not treating you as an individual...clear you are managing well...don't be deterred by his ignorance.

What an ignorant dr. You are doing really well. You should be really proud of yourself. We, on here are really proud of you.

I am not an expert on diabetes (diagnosed pre-diabetes last year) but I would like to say that I think you have worked hard and done extremely well. You should congratulate yourself. It is a shame your doctor is so negative about it. I also believed that complications were not inevitable.

Posters on here know an awful lot and I am sure you will have lots of good advice from them.

Thanks for all the support, I have kept on and will continue to do so. I have just weighed today and have got below the 100kg mark for the first time in about 20years a bit more to go (13kg) but very happy, treated myself to new trousers 🙂. levels still between 5 and 7.3 but will continue regular monitoring. Have another appointment in two weeks but am going to be much more assertive and deal with this in the way I want to. With regards to food I am loving the fish and salad and have a real love of tomatoes, chillies and onion. Sweet potatoes have also been a revelation. Walking has progressed to include cycling now which again is something missing from my lifestyle for 20+ years. It also fills the time now there's no beer or munching evenings haha

Good for you @MrJames.
Those figures and weight loss show you are doing the right thing. It is you, not your doctor, who has to live with and manage your D, so ignore his ignorance and carry on.🙂
