After a fourth day searching, rescuers have been unable locate a diabetic Dunedin man missing in the Ahuriri Valley near Omarama.
Fourteen teams of around 50 to 60 search and rescue volunteers from Central Otago, the Catlins, Twizel, Tekapo, Fairlie and Wanaka combed the rugged and remote terrain in cold weather yesterday for any sign of David Charles Palmer, 53.
Mr Palmer has been missing since setting out on what was meant to be a three-to-four hour hike on Saturday. He was reported missing on Sunday.
The University of Otago health science library assistant's vehicle was found at the base of the Dingle Burn Track.
Police said last night they would continue searching this morning.
