Thank you Gwynn, You are right.Yes, it is but maybe you can take control of things and feel a whole lot better.
If you are a T2 reduce your carbs. If you can exercise, go for it.
Try to see it as a big learning curve about you and your body and be kind to yourself. You didn't ask for this but it can be managed.
Good luck and a lot of people here will give you good solid advice and support cos they've been where you are now too.
The care of newly diagnosed diabetics seems very lacking, in my opinion.6 months after diagnosis, it is hitting me now. I have been nervy recently, I think it is that this is forever.
I was left too it by hospital, just watch carbs and take tablets. This forum has been invaluable where medical people were hopelessly inadequate. The care of newly diagnosed diabetics seems very lacking, in my opinion.
The simple message 'you can't cope with carbohydrates, but if you reduce them you should be fine, or at least a lot better, and in only a few weeks too' should be a starting point. There are so many ordinary type twos who - like me - just get told they are very bad diabetics.
I started to eat low carb and it just wasn't a problem any more - my GP has not spoken to me since November 2016, at diagnosis, as in 80 days I was no longer diabetic.
Of course some people need medication, some have complex needs - but I do sigh and shake my head over all the mountain out of molehill reactions many newcomers report.
I had a review on 6 July and doc was happy with where I was at, in range. My thyroid is on the way out as have antibodies attacking it, will be on meds for it eventually. Check BG regularly and 95% of time in range.Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling a bit nervy recently @rosalindb
Hopefully you will have a check-up at some point soon, which will help to show you whether your glucose is more or less in range with the changes you have made, or if your approach needs a slight tweak.
Are you checking your own BGs?
Hope you get some reassurance at your next appointment. Well managed diabetes should come with relatively low risk of any of the long-term nasties that are associated with living with diabetes.
