and the many products which use it may have to be pulled from shelves until they have been reformulated.

The ingredient is phenylephrine. In the UK it appears to be contained in these: https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/ingredient/1277#gref

Equally, some effective products are banned from sale OTC in the UK, melatonin tablets being one of them. In fact, the effort to prevent this natural sleep aids is so great, they have also banned the sale of it into the UK from abroad too. They are more than happy to prescribe sleeping tablets though.

When i was doing a lot of Oz <=> US <=> Europe travel melatonin was really good for my really bad jetlag. But you could only get it OTC in the US, as far as I can remember. But for the last couple of years it's been available OTC in Oz.

That's great giving the public a choice in OZ. In the UK GP's are basically banned from prescribing it, except in particular circumstances like for those over 55 and some children with ADD. They are forced to prescribe sleeping tablets instead.

On the phenylephrine, in the UK we had a few products taken off the shelf last year containing this.

Just checked the cold meds we have in, Lemsip and supermarket own-brand decongestant.

Both have phenlephrine as the decongestant ingredient 🙄
