A CGM without hypo alerts & other features. No prescription required.

T2's, non-diabetics, biohackers, obsessives ... Now easier then ever for everybody to monitor their BG in real time, whether it not there's any use to it, and pay rivers of recurring revenue to Dexcom 🙂

What does the first over the counter cgm mean here?

You don’t need a prescription for dexcom or libre now and can buy them at pharmacies. Does that not mean we already have over the counter CGMs?

Yeah, sorry, the "no prescription" thing only relevant to US.

More broadly, this is part of push to broaden CGM usage on the part of health authorities and vendors. Eg there's a big multi-country trial of CGM's for non-insulin dependent T2D's (a friend of mine is co-PI for the Australian arm of the trial). Over time I think they will become standard recommendations for all T2D's in many parts of the world. Ths FDA approval is I think a strong signal of support for that.

Lots of experts focusing on a downside to broadening availability of CGM's to everybody: it's grist for the grift mill of people like the"Glucose Goddess", Tim Spector, Nina Teichholz, a gadzillion other low-carb grifters, that post-eating glucose "spikes" are bad & scary and you must send me some $$$ or you will die early and whatever you do, know well that bananas are the Devil's Fruit etc etc etc.

Eg ...

Who knows?

Why are you obsessed with calling anyone who seems to be a fan of low carb a grifter? People are adults, allow them to do their own research and find their own way forwards.

If competition in the CGM-style market helps access and maybe (we can dream) costs, then what can be wrong with that?

Only the ones who IMO make stuff up with the goal of getting money and attention from information-challenged people with health concerns.

Devices like this (the Libre.) have been over the counter (chemist vended.) for years?
I self funded before getting granted by the NHS. Then there was that “Supersapien” thing a while back.
There has been nothing to stop anyone ordering online.

I may be wrong, but I think perhaps the situation was different in the US, and you may have needed a prescription to buy them?

That Deidre Tobias sounds like right fruitcake, does she not realise berries like blueberries are a fav amongst those who follow LC diet.

50g of blueberries is only 7g carbs, so 25g serving would be half that which would be enough to scatter over some Greek yogurt in a morning.

You gotta hope that likes of her never join s forum like this talking nonsense.

Actually, after a bit of searching on affairs stateside. You are right! needs prescribing as part of the healthcare plan? Made sense to me they were either obtainable online Dexcom. (1 6&7?) & Or at the chemist like Abbott.
There was a “Supersapiens” libre in a giant black protector ring a while back for the “bio hackers?” (It seemed to have its own health app too. But that seemed to change operations. It don’t even look like they are trading anymore?

I’m sure if that happened? Any experienced low carbers on this website could handle it. 🙂

I like a debate too 🙂
