Very encouraging results! 22% weight loss is amazing.

I hope they have sufficient stocks in place given the ongoing GLP shortages (and spillover shortages of replacements).

It’s getting tough for lots of T2s to access the right meds for them o_O

Combined with up to $1.825B in milestones, a sign of how big this space is going to be.
Not that any of us should be surprised. The dieting market is surely massive even if you just look at books and videos. Drugs that actually work are obviously going to be big.

Full data from the big semaglutide SELECT CVD trial is being presented on Saturday. 17,000 overweight/obese non-diabetic subjects with established CVD. Prelim announcement in August claimed huge 20% reduction in major adverse events (MI, stroke etc). Expectation is that this will lead to approval for semaglutide as a CVD med, which should be a huge boost to volume.

I've just received an invite to a 5yr trial of semaglutide.. thoughts

We have several members who have taken it, and it has been effective for some, but not suited others.

Mostly these days it’s people upset that they can’t get it any more if that tells a story?!

Be interested to hear how you get on if you give it a go 🙂

Some threads here:
I've completed application, but will speak with doctor, as be a bit gutted if it does help and I've been taking placebo for 5 yrs

Placebos are powerful things! And even become more ‘effective’ at higher doses. It’s a fascinating topic o_O

Blooming heck! Yes, that is a bit of a thought! What if you were on a placebo and your levels rise significantly during the trial period. Presumably they would prescribe something else instead and stop the trial. 5 years would be far to long to have elevated levels and nothing done about them!

Yes there will certainly be a part of the protocol to protect participants from harm! It’s why all the studies listed here inviting participation have to have Ethics Approval.

By the same token, there is an ethical obligation to stop the trial & stop the placebo if there is clear evidence that the intervention is producing a superior result.

This happened with semaglutide's CKD trial in October: https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma...-kidney-disease-trial-early-positive-efficacy

Anyway, some comfort that you wouldn't end up with 5 years of placebo instead of effective treatment.
