Hi Folks
At the moment I feel almost at my wits end, I have been a type 1 diabetic for about 18 years, I have had fatty lumps just below the skin for a number of years which I have mentioned to my G.P who seems not to be overly concerned, over the past couple of weeks they have been uncomfortable mainly the two larger ones on my stomach, don't get me wrong I have had no pain or discomfort from them at any time but I have read that they can become uncomfortable due to the pressure they can create in some areas, I am literally sh1tting myself in case this is due to something else, what doesn't help is that our eldest son was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome ( a condition of the kidneys) in 2012 he has suffered 3 relapses last year and I don't know if emotionally I have the strength to deal with my own worries.
Does anyone have any experience with fatty lumps and dealing with them or a similar experience to what I am feeling physically with them at the moment. Advise please, thanks

Hi MJS, welcome to the forum 🙂 Are the lumps in areas where you inject? If so, this can be quite a common problem (known as 'lipodystrophy'). Insulin injected into such areas can be absorbed patchily, so they are best avoided. Do you rotate your injection sites regularly?

Hi MJS,

I have a fatty lump on my upper leg (not from injecting, I'm not diabetic), and sometimes it bothers me - in fact I think the more I prod it the more likely it is to feel uncomfortable! I did show it to a GP several years ago, and was told it was nothing to worry about, just fat deposited where probably I'd had a bruise or bump at one time. From time to time I worry that it has grown or may be sinister, but I don't think it is really. Fatty lumps in injection sites are similar in that they are not a cause for concern in themselves, but as Northerner said, you should avoid injecting in those areas because the insulin absorption will be poor. If they are on your stomach I can imagine they could be uncomfortable if your waistband presses on them, but not a cause for anxiety, especially since you've shown them to your GP and he isn't concerned.

Sorry to hear about your son, hope he's doing ok now.

Thanks folks, no these are not at my injection sites as I rotate these frequently, just paranoid about them, I would have rather when I mentioned them to the G.P that he had said get them removed but they don't seem concerned but you hear of so many people getting things missed by their G.P after all you get on average 5 minutes in the seat.

I get fatty lumps come up now and again. Sometimes they're cysts, other time they're just like Redkite's. The first few times I panicked and rushed to the doctor's, these days I just ignore them and they go away eventually.
