Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm Telboy. I'm 73 and a type 2 on 160gms Gliclazide. I'm struggling with a 24 hour fast for medical reasons (colonoscopy). I'm required to cease my Gliclazide two days in advance and then fast for the 24 hours before the procedure. My problem is that I become hypo after about ten hours (4.2, 3.8) without food but I cannot find anyone in my immediate NHS who can come up with a solution. My GP, practise diabetes nurse and hospital diabetic nurse specialist do not offer any sensible suggestions. I am anxious to have the colonoscopy as it is part of my triennial bowel cancer screening. Any one else had this problem?

Glucose tablets dissolved in the mouth. That's what it it says in my pre colonoscopy instructions.

I was ok on clear drinks.
Lucozade maybe.
Clear broth.

I was told to use clear juice if needed for the hypo. They just wanted a clear view and no lumpy remains in the way. Hope all goes well.

Second what has been said from rueful experience!
Any clear liquids such as Bovril, sugar free juice and squash are fine until a couple of hours before the procedure.
Believe me if you take the stuff they give you as instructed ( it's the nearest thing to human "Donarod" ever invented) there won't be much left inside to impede the view so to speak.

I’m. Interested how a T2 goes hypo , without taking. Glicazide...how does that happen..
