No the HbA1c is an average of your BG levels over the last 3 months or so. You would have to do many, many finger pricks throughout the day at night to get a figure that could give you an indication of your HbA1c

Hi Margaret and welcome! I’ve no idea why you’d be heading towards insulin with levels in the 6’s and 7’s because an average glucose reading of 7 would only give you approx. a Hba1c of 42 which is barely in the pre-diabetic range. If you’re managing those averages, you’re doing very well indeed!
However, it depends how often you’re testing and whether it’s after meals too. Obviously we get our lowest readings before meals so this won’t give an accurate representation of the day. Whilst the Hb test captures 10-12 weeks of glycated haemoglobin levels, the most recent ones influence the outcome more.

I had bad bouts of (non alcoholic) acute pancreatitis many years ago too but didn’t develop diabetes until well after a decade or more later. What medication are you on?

Hello Margaret and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi amigo, in reply to your question reg. My BG readings.....I am on metforman 1000 MG's morn. And 1000 evening also daploglizin? Evening.I hope o have not confused u with my bgs. I have been keeping a record , my diab .nurse stated she was looking for 7's on fasting and 10's before evening meal and 12's post evening meals. Are these too high? I am managing this, but 2out of the 6 wks I have been testing I have managed below 7's fasting. The lchf diet has helped (apart from having a bad day today. Because I was not at home and unable to stick to routine). I do notice that others on the forum manage to stay within the normal levels is 7's and below. Sorry again for rambling I hope u get this post? Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Hi @Margaret Wilson, welcome. It can take a while before you start to get good results throughout the day and often the last numbers to start coming down is the fasting one first thing in the morning.
Now you have a meter it will aid you greatly in bringing your levels down , it’s a great tool in finding which carbohydrates your body can and can’t tolerate well.
I understand the possibility of going on insulin can be scary, but now you have a meter and have found us , hopefully your control will improve so much you won’t need to.

Any site can be confusing at first , don’t worry you’ll soon find your way around.
