I didn't sleep well last night; woke up a few times hot and bothered (haven't felt 100% recently so a little stressed)...when I tested on waking (7.10am) I was 5.7; had a mug of tea and went back to sleep for an hour; re-tested at 8.15am and was 5.3...

Was I higher first time around because of the dawn phenomenan (sorry mis-spellt); disturbed sleep/stress or heat...or all 3?

Have another HbA1c in 2 weeks; for some reason my DN is doing this every 3 months even though my numbers have reduced from 7.2, 6 and now 5.7...

Hi Amanda, I tend to have a slightly higher level when I have a restless night. It's only a small variation and still nicely within range so it's not something to be concerned about - you're doing really well 🙂 Both numbers are within the range of accuracy of the meters (10% either way would give a 0.5 mmol/l difference on a 5 mmol/l), plus there can be variations anyway in different fingerpricks taken at the same time - best not to worry too much about absolute accuracy with these things, it's only really important if you are below 4 which you should react to by treating as a hypo. 🙂

5.7 isn't high and is a completely normal fasting bg for someone non-diabetic too, I wouldn't be remotely concerned with that number, am I missing something?

Do type 2's not on insulin suffer from DP?
