Fasting could "reverse" type 2 in weeks.

Recent research suggests that fasting could potentially reverse type 2 diabetes and eliminate the need for insulin while controlling blood glucose levels. The study, published in BMJ Case Reports, indicates that planned intermittent fasting may help to reverse type 2 diabetes after three patients were able to completely stop their insulin treatment.

This is based on a trial composing of three participants. Before getting excited I'd like to see a much bigger trial.

I'm a great fan of the 5:2 diet, it has worked for me in the past to lose weight, be it slowly ie about 1lb per week.

I'm guessing it comes back to losing weight and body fat.

When I started the 5:2 back in 2012 you fasted for two days (800 calories) and you could then eat what you wanted to within reason on the other 5 days, this of course would not work for diabetics on a low carb diet.

I know it's been refined in recent years to accommodate diabetics

And still the media insist on using the term ‘reverse’, rather than the more widely accepted ‘remission’.

Despite many diabetes organisations discouraging the idea of ‘reversal’ as potentially misleading.

Remission better fits with the current science and results.
