Jenny Ruhl reckons that the fasting blood sugar level is the hardest to reduce.

Can anyone say why this is so?

In my naivete, i can't see what one can do to lower the fasting reading that one isn't doing already to lower the post-meal readings.

Am I overlooking something?

I think one of the reasons it is so difficult to reduce is that a lot of people suffer from the dawn phenonemon, meaning sugars can rise in the mornings.
Those on insulin can adjust basal rates in order to try and counter this, not necessarily an easy solution however!
I'd imagine that this is one of those areas where it will be more difficult for those diet/exercise controlled to control as there's little in the way of intervention that can be done overnight!
I'm sure someone on here however will have some more practical advice than me!

Dear Jean,

You got it in 1! There is nothing directly you can do and I imagine that's why Jenny says it's difficult. Aymes is correct, the dawn phenonemon ( your liver thinks you are going low overnight so it dumps glucose into your blood stream) can be a problem.

Warmest Regards Dodger
