LITTLE Maisie Black will today be refused the drug that would save her life ? because of money.
The drug, Kalydeco, is already available in England to patients with seven-year-old Maisie?s type of cystic fibrosis. But advisers to the NHS in Scotland believe the cost of prescribing it outweighs its benefits.
The news left Maisie?s family in tears. They say Kalydeco would be CHEAPER than the treatment she gets now.
Maisie is currently in hospital with a serious lung infection brought on by her illness.
The Scottish Medicines Consortium took their decision even though Kalydeco would be a cure in all but name for Maisie and around 80 other sufferers in Scotland.
With it, Maisie could enjoy a normal life and live to old age.
