I felt very ill last night - my own fault - I fear it was caused by eating a tad too much sweet food - I know, I know - I'm on my own - felt tho I was going to faint - lay myself on the floor in case I did - nauseous but wasn't sick - head spinning - trembling all over - perspiring - felt cold but thought I might have had a temperature at the same time. I drank 200ml water. Did I suffer a false hypo - and if so how should I have treated it please?

I can't remember if your on medication or not WL but I highly doubt eating too much sweet food would cause a false hypo, you were more likely a tad on the high side I hope you are feeling better now my dear x

And for people that have false hypos there are no ways to treat it, remember if you feel funny check your levels - if they are normal you just have to ride it out I'm afraid x

Hi Kaylz. Thanks for that - not on any meds - metformin was withdrawn - zero tolerance - I had a bgl of 6.2 this morning so back on form - whatever it was - it was scary!

Dx Type 2 April 2016
Metformin withdrawn
Diet control and exercise only

People that have false hypos are worse off I feel anyway as you just have to sit and put up with the symptoms, I hope you've been taking it easy today though Mrs 🙂 x

How long after eating did this occur? because when you eat high carb anything without sufficient insulin to get going and sort it asap and your BG shoots up mega quick - then a bit later it absolutely plummets just as suddenly as it shot up. You may well not finish up with a BG under 4 - but because your body simply isn't used to BGs anywhere near normal - it doesn't know - so it thinks it's a real one. Bloomin awful, isn't it?

Very very hard to 'treat' actually because your brain is so addled - only another 10 ton of sweet stuff can satisfy it. But that's the last thing you need to do!

So - it will most likely happen again - and again - and again.

DO NOT ALLOW IT TO GET THE UPPER HAND.

Instead - just learn the lesson your body just gave you - in no uncertain terms - and don't do that again!

As your body re-learns what's right and normal, you only need smallish amounts of carb to treat a real hypo, or when you get hypo symptoms when your BG is above 4 but still only in single figures - you may be able to fool it by eating protein - a bit of cheese or some nuts, instead!

Thank you Jenny. Yes a lesson learned indeed! I don't know why I did it - Erm... that's a porky! I went shopping on an empty stomach - (fatal) as well as the good stuff I bought too much of 'the other' that I don't normally eat - came home and as I was putting away the shopping I was munching away on........this & that - because I couldn't wait for my dinner to cook! I would guestimate it would have been about 45mins later that I started to feel unwell. This feeling of unwellness lasted about 1hour. Oddly enough I'd bought a packet of protein bars but they were out of reach already in the cupboard. Enuff said - going out shortly with daughter & family for a meal - I've already decided on fresh salmon 🙂

Never shop on an empty stomach! I refuse to as I know what I'm like wanting to buy all the baddies. Have a nice time with family. 🙂

Hi, it does sound to me like a hyper rather than a hypo.

Could have been either - but it matters not - wirralass is hardly going to be gagging at the bit to repeat the experience - so as far as I'm concerned - that's got to be GOOD !!

Plus if she hadn't done it, she could be wondering for ever till it ate away at her to do it - 'if I did eat a pile of c**p - would it matter?' Well - now she knows! LOL

Hi Wirralass
Hyper is high.
Hypo is low .
It's confusing at times isn't it 🙂

You wouldn't be hypo after lots of naughty sweet things wirralass. Probably a 'sugar rush' (so a hyper). Your body probably went into shock getting lots of the things you've been denying it for a while! :D

I've stupidly had a cake for Mother's Day and have shot up to 10.1. It's probably only the second time I've gone into double figures! But tomorrow is another day!

@Amigo
Hi & thank you Amigo - It's unbelievable how one cake will push bgl into double figures 😱 sounds like it was a mighty big cake you ate!!!😛 :Dbut more to the point - did you enjoy it?! 🙂Hope you can rectify your bgl by tomorrow's waking.

I often feel I'm in no-man's land as far as diabetes is concerned - I've learned so much on the forum but feel I still need to educate myself even further - it's all so very complicated - I don't absorb or digest things as easily these days - which is half my problem - that's why I ask relative questions when I feel the need to - take care x

Surprisingly, it was only a small chocolate cornflake cake but obviously my body didn't like it at all! I'm back down to 8 now so hopefully no harm done.
Diabetes can have a mind of its own some days based on other factors so it's important to keep asking questions. Best wishes 🙂

I find with false hypos a small amount cheese
For hypers sipping water if exercise is out of the question
