Fake Facebook Adverts Using Diabetes UK Branding

There are a number of fraudulent advertisements for products which are being advertised on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, and are using the Diabetes UK logo, and the NHS logo without permission.

These include various ‘non-invasive’ glucose measuring devices, ‘detox bracelets’, ‘glucose watches’ and similar, which do not work and are not fit for purpose

Diabetes UK says:
“Unfortunately, Diabetes UK is aware that there are some misleading adverts circulating on social media where the Diabetes UK name is being falsely used to advertise ‘Fat burning and blood sugar balancing’ bracelets. These products aren't endorsed by Diabetes UK.
We do not have evidence of the accuracy of these devices or if they have had robust testing in people with diabetes. Therefore we would not advise that they are used to manage blood sugar levels. If you see these adverts, we would ask you to report them as 'spam' to Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok or wherever else you may see them. Always go via diabetes.org.uk if you wish to purchase items from the Diabetes UK online shop.
Diabetes UK is working to try to get these false adverts removed from social media platforms.”

And ‘nano microneedle patches’ promising anything from fat burning, to glucose regulation, and heart health
Diabetes UK says:
“We have been made aware of a product which is using our logo, alongside logos of other UK-based health organisations. We do not know what, if anything are in these products and it poses a real safety concern for customers who may have purchased a product like this, or other similar products.”

Please report any such adverts you see to the social media platform.

Always go via shop.diabetes.org.uk if you wish to purchase items from the Diabetes UK online shop

This is why I always think that companies like Meta and Google need to be made more responsible for the adverts that they post on behalf of their customers. I bet they would react a lot faster if scam artists used the Meta and Google trademarks to falsley endorse their products or services.

Yes I’d imagine they’d crack down on that pretty swiftly!

Unfortunately it seems a bit like playing whack-a-mole at the moment - new fake ads / sites / and spurious products which look suspiciously similar to previous ones keep appearing :(

I occasionally look at the “free” online versions of both the local newspaper here where I live in Northampton and down where I’m originally from Newbury
I don’t subscribe to their services as only look occasionally, the stories are plagued by what is quite clearly fake products & scam ads …
we all have to be ever so careful with anything sold / advertised on-line

I have recently reported a couple of these ads to Facebook only to be told that they “do not breach Facebook standards”. Unfortunately there is no opportunity given to explain what the problem is, eg. false claims of endorsement by DUK.

That’s ridiculous!
