Relationship to Diabetes

Sometimes the administration of the NHS is just nuts. I have a diabetes eye test today. NHS have hired a room in an industrial estate outside of town in the middle of nowhere. It will mean 3 separate bus journeys to get there. I can't drive because I am having eye drops to open my pupils and I also have to be accompanied. At first I was asked to arrive at 9am so travelling in the rush hour. This I have changed this to 1:30pm and hired a taxi with a mate. Why not hire somewhere in the centre of town where all public transport, in the local area, goes to and so reduce exposure to infection?

Unfortunately differnt areas arrange their services in many differnt ways.
I have in about 15 years I been going to the Retinal Screening service for the checks, I have never been to a location that was Central and only twice was in the same City/Town. The locations have been Health Authority Office blocks, room in a Pharmacy, 2 differnt GP surgeries.
Hope it goes well for you.

Have you rung them and asked 'Is there anywhere else I could go to for the photos?' They are very approachable normally.

Things are definitely different around the country.
My retinal scan is always done by a mobile unit which tours the local GP's surgeries. Now I just need to walk down my road. Before I worked form home, this was a problem because I had to commute back home for the scan. Thankfully, this is only a 40 minute walk but when I was given too many drops and my eyes were blurry for 4 hours afterwards, crossing roads was very treacherous.
I came to the conclusion, there is no ideal location.

I was given an appointment in the town centre, a level walk in the pedestrian only area - so easy to get to I was early. I think it is very much down to who is delegated to organise the situation in our new situation as to how much thought goes into the arrangements. There was a car park adjacent to the building, a one way system with a waiting area with well spaced out chairs, and a long corridor with chairs again for the 'queue' - which was two people including me, so everything was as good as it could get, really.

Sorry to hear you’ve got a bit of a runaround to get to your eye appointment :(

Glad you’ve been able to get transport arranged.

Hope the appointment goes well. I suspect it will be a while before I get my letter for a screening appointment.
