Am I right in thinking that children of diabetics are entitled to free eye tests? My youngest daughter (she's 22) went into Vision Express today and was told she had to pay for her eye test even though she explained her mother was T2 diabetic. Does anybody know the ruling on this?

No, she's not entitled. Children of glaucoma sufferers can claim a free eye test once they reach a certain age but that's the only example I can think of.

Thats a bit of a bummer really and as she has now left full time Uni, she goes to college one day a week, she's not classed as a student now. Looks like she will end up paying full price then :(

That's correct - you need to be diagnosed with diabetes to get free eye tests. You might be thinking of glaucoma, but relatives of those who are diagnosed have to be aged over 40 to get free eye tests.

That list of people who get free tests is interesting. Prisoners on leave from prison seems an odd one. I guess they also get free tests whilst incarcerated too, even though its not mentioned.

Alisonz is she on any of the benefits mentioned in Copepod's link ?

No unfortunately because she is still studying she's not entitled seems a bit unfair on her really she does 4 days a week work placement and 1 day a week college. She has only recently given up Uni as travelling to and from was just too expensive for her and grants wouldn't cover it.
